We breed a mix of Duroc, Yorkshire and Landrace hogs that we call Housatonic Hogs, which we have found to thrive well on pasture, have an easy temperament, and develop excellent body composition. Housatonic Hogs' length provides for ample bacon, with full hams and a balanced fat ratio.
- Our sows and boars are pasture-raised and fed a diet of local, certified NON-GMO grains. - We do not use farrowing or gestation crates. - Our indoor maternity suites (used for extreme heat or cold) and outdoor pens provide our sows individual space to farrow, and allow hands-on oversight for piglet health and development. - All males are castrated by week 3 to minimize complications. - All breed stock is tested annually by the State of CT Department of Agriculture for infectious diseases (we have never tested positive).
We are happy to provide references from some of our existing piglet customers who can speak directly to the quality of our animals. Please contact us for availability and pricing.
