The Vision That Started It All
Author: Farmer Kelley
Last week, my son turned 40.

It’s a milestone that has me looking back, not just at the years, but at the moment that changed everything for us.

Sixteen years ago, this farm wasn’t part of the plan. It felt like a stretch in every possible way, financially, physically, emotionally. I wasn’t looking to start something new. I certainly wasn’t looking to step this far outside of what felt comfortable.

But he was.

It was his idea. His energy. His willingness to see something where the rest of us saw uncertainty. He had the kind of drive that doesn’t wait for perfect conditions, it moves forward and figures things out along the way.

And somehow, I followed.

What started as his vision has grown into something much bigger than any of us could have imagined. The farm has changed, expanded, refined itself over time, just as we have. The path hasn’t been straight, and the plan hasn’t stayed the same. But the foundation he helped set all those years ago is still here.

It shows up in the way I work. In the choices I make. In the willingness to keep evolving.

Turning 40 feels significant. Not just for him, but for me as well. There’s something powerful about watching your child become fully himself, steady, capable, still carrying that same spark that started it all.

This farm exists because he was willing to begin.

And I’m grateful every day that he did. Happy birthday, Farmer John.

Warmly,
Kelley
