Late-Winter Rituals

Author: Farmer Kelley

This morning the frost clung low to the pasture grass, and the barn was quieter than usual. Even the cows moved slowly—no rush, no urgency—just breath rising in steady clouds as the sun took its time.

Late winter asks something different of us.

Out here, the rhythm doesn’t change much. The chores are the same. The gates still need opening or the snow moved to open the gate. But the way we move through them softens. I linger longer with each of the dogs for our morning snuggles. I cradle my mug between both hands before stepping back into the cold.

Women over 40 feel this season deeply, I think. The nervous system is a little more tender. Sleep more precious. The body is asking not for intensity—but for steadiness.

So I’ve been returning to simple anchors:

A warm mug of coffee with 3 drops of Vitamin D3/K2, a raw egg and a packet of LMNT Chocolate or Caramel electrolyte powder within an hour of waking. Five quiet minutes of stretching before the day begins.

Lights dimmed early.

Feet on the earth, even if just for a breath between tasks.

Nothing dramatic. Just rhythm.

The land is not rushing into spring. It’s gathering strength. And we can do the same – even if my brain doesn’t always agree.

If your body has been asking for steadier ground lately, consider this a gentle reminder: nourish well, move slowly, and let your evenings close softly.

And if you’d like, write back and tell me—what ritual has been holding you lately?

With warmth from the pasture,
