What the Animals Do When the Grass Returns
Author: Farmer Kelley
The first time the animals step onto fresh grass, there’s no hesitation.
They move forward with complete certainty. Heads down, fully engaged, exactly where they’re meant to be.
After months of hay, the shift is immediate. Their bodies recognize what’s in front of them and respond.
No overthinking. No second-guessing.
Just instinct.
I think about how often we’ve been taught to override that instinct. Especially when it comes to food, movement, and rest.
But this time of year has a way of bringing it back.
Sometimes it literally smacks you in the face. It is hard not to overdo things in the spring – we finally have more daylight, and the weather is more accommodating. But I have creaks and aches and physical reminders why I need to pace myself.
A reminder that when something is right, it doesn’t feel complicated.
It feels natural. Even if it still needs to be done at a snails pace.
