What Would Your Best Last Day Look Like?
Author: Farmer Kelley

I don’t spend much time on social media lately, and when I do, I work pretty hard at changing my algorithm.
I’m purposely seeking out pages that show me something beautiful or teach me something new about the world, myself, or life in general. And I’m always open to recommendations too!
Recently, @doctorthanh_luu posted a series of prompts designed to help you “get unreasonably good at knowing yourself.”
There were definitely some insightful ones, but this one really stuck with me:
The asteroid’s coming tomorrow.
Nothing else matters now.
How do you spend your last 24 hours? Who are you with? What are you doing?
When money, status, and doubt are off the table, what would you choose?
I have to tell you, this one is really tough for me.
I immediately start thinking about my animals. Thank you, Walt Disney and the Dinosaur movie, for that particular piece of childhood trauma!
But once I get past that part, I know exactly what I would want.
I’d want us all to have the kind of “best last day” we try so hard to give a beloved pet when we know their time is coming to an end.
No rushing around.
No worrying about work.
No unfinished to-do lists.
Just the people and animals I love, together.
The gift I would want to give my family would be helping them leave this world with bellies full of their favorite foods, surrounded by smiles, laughter, hugs, and the people they love most.
And when I really think about it, maybe that’s the point of the question.
When money, status, schedules, responsibilities, and all the things we spend so much time worrying about suddenly disappear, what’s left?
For me, it’s pretty simple.
Good food. The people I love. My animals. Laughter. Hugs. And being together until the very end.
Maybe we shouldn’t need an asteroid to remind us to make more room for those things now.
How about you?
If tomorrow were your last day, what would your best last day look like?
Warmly,
Farmer Kelley
