The Good Path

I was talking to a friend the other day who told me her baby sister developed Alpha-gal Syndrome after a hike this spring.
I’m not going to lie. Alpha-gal ranks pretty high on the list of things that scare the hell out of me.
It’s crazy to think that something as simple as a tick bite can potentially change what you’re able to eat. For someone who raises beef, the thought of suddenly having to give up steak, bacon, and maybe even butter definitely gets my attention.
Alpha-gal Syndrome is an allergy associated with tick bites that can cause reactions to meat and other products from mammals. Poultry and fish, however, do not contain alpha-gal.
That makes me especially pleased to have sourced some really wonderful poultry for Howling Flats, giving our customers another high-quality protein option.
And if you haven’t tried our wild-caught Alaskan salmon, you may just fall in love at first bite.
For me, it’s another reminder that having choices matters, especially when it comes to the food we put on our tables.
Warmly,
Farmer Kelley
