We're a Working Farm, Not a Pinterest Farm
Author: Farmer Kelley
I often look at the pretty Instagram farms with white gossamer curtains in the barn and fluffy, clean animals and wonder to myself am I doing enough?
Then I remember that doing what matters never makes for pretty social pictures.
My usually white livestock dogs have pine tar on their heads - it looks ridiculous but does a great job of keeping the flies away.
The willow trees are draping to the ground because the animals love to use them as fly swatters.
The poor blueberry bushes have gone by the wayside because the bratty little goats helped themselves to some berry treats while keeping the creeping invasives at bay.
So to the gentleman who got snippy that I wasn’t on-farm when he called Saturday around 3 pm asking if “now was a good time to swing by” all I can say is we are proud to be a working farm - not a Pinterest Farm.
